民主進步黨主席蘇貞昌美國時間8日下午抵達美國洛杉磯，晚間出席餐會時接受媒體聯訪，對於適逢歐習會結束，關於大陸向美方提出停止售台武器的態度，蘇貞昌表示，感謝美國依據台灣關係法提供台灣防衛性武器。

蘇貞昌前往美國與加拿大，展開為期11天的參訪行程，這次前往美加參訪的重點，主要是就台灣周邊情勢與美國政府官員與國會領袖交換意見，並前往智庫做專題演講。此外，蘇貞昌也將與在美加的台灣僑胞有多場聚會，希望能把民進黨的理念與對未來的希望，在這次緊湊的行程中，多加互動並增加了解。

蘇貞昌抵達美國洛杉磯後，在晚間出席餐會時接受媒體聯訪，針對媒體詢問適逢歐習會結束，如何看待大陸向美方提出停止軍售給台灣的態度。他指出，根據台灣關係法第二條第二項提供台灣防衛性武器，這是美國的政策，也明文規定。他特別感謝這30幾年來美國一直遵守這項政策，讓台灣免於受他人威脅的恐懼。

蘇貞昌並強調，台海關係的和平最重要的是大陸不要武力威脅台灣，讓台灣能夠和平。「台灣人是最善良且愛好和平的」，他表示，這趟美國行他會和美國的政府官員、國會的領袖見面，表達台灣人的善意。
